help needed...85 305 project
hey everyone, im kinda new to the camaro project scene, and i need some help on where to start...i have an 85 305 with an auto tranny, and im just looking to get it fast enough to hold its own at the saturday nite races...im thinking of starting with an ignition upgrade, then exhaust, but im sure there are some more important things that have slipped past me...any help you can give would be much appreciated, and i'll post pics as the project progresses
Well first off your in the wrong area, you have a V8, this is a V6 board so you wont get much specific help here.
IF you have a TPI you need to go to the TPI board, but beware they will tell you you need to go the cam and head route.
BAsically you need to figure out how fast you want to go. I mean time wise in the 1/4mile. Then I am sure I or some other people with lots of experience could formulate you a plan to get there.
First thing is first. Change all fluid and make sure eerything looks good. Do a compression and leak down test and make sure everything is in top working order before you worry about speed parts.
THen its off to what ever level you want to attain.
A little more infor about you car is really needed. Which 305 do you have, what rear gear, what suspension.... bla bla bla. THen we can get into the good stuf

86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!

ahhhh....thanks kyle...as i said, im kinda new to the whole thing, but ive loved camaros forever...im just needing to learn a whoooole lot more about the actual engine part...heh....anyway, thanks for the info...
We all start somewhere. I started out life with a 79 Firebird Esprit Red bird. Went to a 88 Fiero GT, then a 91 S-10 4.3L 4X4, then to an 86 Trans Am from the age of 12 to 15. The T/A was a dog slow peanut camed 305TPI auto running to 2.77 gears.
Though over a feww years and a lot of post and a lot of tinkering and a lot of research I managed to build a combo to run 13.9 and was still in the works for a set of AFR aluminum heads so I could run a 150hp shot of NOS. All things in the block and drivetrain were built accordingly to handle it reliably.

My borhter has just completed a bad a$$ 305 TBI set up in his car. I was there for most of it, and I personally did a $hit load of work on a TPI and some Rustangs for my friends, so yea I can help you out plenty.
