Timing Chain Questions

Ok what was that test to do with the timing light to see if the timing chain was getting weak. How many degrees do you get before it effects normal operation of the car?

What is the best Aftermarket Chain for our cars?

To anyone that has installed the MSD 6A box. Has it help you with LESS missing at idle? And how much did your MPG go up?

I'm not sure about the timing light test; I prefer to go by the mileage test. High miles = change the chain. They say chains start stretching after 30,000 miles (altho nobody in their right minds changes the chain that early!!), so if you've got 130,000 miles, it might be a good idea to swap it out. (I changed mine near 180,000 miles.)

The best (and only) aftermarket performance chain out there for our 2.8/3.1's is the one by Cloyes. It's a true dual roller, and costs $90 from Summit Racing. You will have to remove the factory tensioner (a V-shaped piece of steel), since the new sprockets will hit the tensioner.

I have the MSD 6AL box, but I never missed @ idle, and I never noticed a MPG gain. (I don't keep track of it...)
