Camaro RS Running Problems.

I have a 89' Camaro RS 2.8L V6 M4 trans. I recently starting restoring the car from sitting over 8 yrs in all the weather it being outside. but any way, I just put a new fuel pump in my car. I put a new pump and a new fuel filter on both. When the cars gas gauge gets to the orange line (not Empty) it has a real hard time starting and when it does crank it only runs for about 3 seconds. No shorter no longer. its always the same amount of running time. I was just wondering if any of you guys on here had a clue to what it is. it runs alright around a 1/4 tank but runs the BEST around 1/2+ tank.

The sock at the end of the fuel pump might be hitting a baffle, or you bent the gas gauge sending unit arm. You really could be out of gas if thats the case.

But if i was out of gas then it wouldnt crank for a few seconds. It does crank if i keep the key turned off for about 5 seconds then crank it, it will run for about three seconds. and it cranks every time i do that.

I have a 89 and the float is wrong, I never let mine get under a 1/2 a tank.

Re: Camaro RS Running Problems.

when it starts do you get oil pressure on the gauge? i thought these cars auto killed themselves if they didn't have oil pressure i may be wrong tho.

Re: Camaro RS Running Problems.

My car never drops below 60psi oil pressure. that even at idle. and 60psi is as high as it goes on the gauge, and its buried past 60 when im up about 2000 RPMS or more.

I just put the pump in. before the gas gauge was right on.
