RPM's
Hey guys, how many RPM's are you guys runnin at idle? I was just wondering because my car idles at like 1100 and runs kinda ruff when i first start it, then after i let it run for a few minutes it drops to 1000 and starts to run smoother. But also my car has been sittin for a while because i don't have my license yet and the car has some damage on the front, i just have to replace the hood, fender, bumper, and the right headlight, nothin major at all. my parents got it for me like that and i'm doin the work myself.
Thanks, Ted

I have an auto trans, '86 2.8 ...
I don't know what it idles when I first start it up... but after it's warmed up, it idles between 600-800, in gear, with the brake on.

When I start my 92 RS it idles at 1500 for a few moments then drops to 1000 slowly. I feel it's kinda sence spec says it should be around 550 - 600. BTW I have a 5 speed manule.
It sounds like your had a front end collison. i would do the bounce check on your struts and physicaly check them out. Sence they are not just shocks, but part of the structure a bad strut can cause problems. Push down on one side repeadtly untill you have it go up and down a bit and the let off. If it bounce 1 -1/2 more times then stops your in good shape. You can check the rear shocks the same way. Also if you grinding noise you will not only need to replace the struts but the strut tower berings too. I would also jack the front of car up and inspect all suspension componets. Also there is ball type thing mounted right under the battery that has a vaccum hose. make sure it is still in place. When I hit a semi's tire trend the mounts broke on my and now it just kinda hangs there untill I can go another one.
if you need help with the struts or other front componets let me know and I will help out. The struts are not that hard change, just a bugger to brake the bolts lose.
