From: milwaukee wisc,
you really dont have to because those cams are not that radical, that youll be starving for gas. if you have a 2.8 15lb is stock
i would go to 17lb. roller rockers, some kind of after market ignition system and , coil. with the bigger injectors port the intake, or get some more air to the engine
via , K&N air filter, good flowing exhaust to. the reason im telling u this is if u have more gas u need more spark, and with more spark u need more air. and with all that extra gas, spark, air, u need some exhaust flow dynomax. just my o2 if you go any bigger you might have computer problems.

I will need to get some better ignition and roller rockers .Everyone seems to like the magnum tip roller rockers .So I think I will invest in some of those . Wayne

magnum rockers just have the roller over the valve, regular rocker otherwise.
Full rollers have needle bearings where the stud goes, istead of the bottom of the rocker rocking on a nut, it rocks on bearings, look up this p/n at www.jegs.com , 270-3060 , that is what a full roller rocker looks like.

A mechanic once asked me what cam I had because apparently he could tell it loped, but its not real noticeable.

Dont get the Crane Cam get the one from GM performance. I have the Crane cam and the cam made me lose power. The roller rockers have poor directions and the cam gave two different sugestions for timing. Dealships wont service it for problems either. If the cam is GM they will. Dont listen to anyone who has not done it. Talk is cheap. I'm getting the Crane cam taken out by a dealership when I get the car out of winter storage and putting in my stock rockers and a GM Performance Cam. Please listen to me.

I'm not so sure about that; I know people have used the Crane 2030 before without problems.

Still thinking about this cam to guys .BUT , I was wondering . I have a rebuilt motor you know .Its not the same motor as the old 2.8 .I know this may sound crazy but it could be true .This engine , not only b/c is a rebuilt , seems much peppier than the other one .I was wondering , If gm does not make a 2.8 anymore , is it possible this could be a 3.4 cam in it ? Or do they re-use cams ? Or re-make one ? How does this work guys ? Maybe my motor just seems faster than it is .Maybe its normal for a 2.8 .I dont know .What my point is , I dont want to put a gm performance cam or comp 2030 in and it be the same one as the 3.4 If I do have a 3.4 in there ? or only a slight gain in difference .What do ya'll guys think ? You think I have a 3.4 cam or what ? Or is this just a silly question . Wayne ..Thanx guys

Wayne, we havn't decided on the 3.4/2030 compu cam arguement... KED says they're the same, others say that it's just a part of an upgrade package...

As far losing power with the cam, it's not the cams fault, it's something wrong with your engine besides that, I can 100% garentee it. And good luck with the GM Performance Parts cam, it's the same exact one, just more expensive. If I were you, I'd spend that money on finding out what's wrong with your car... Simply MHO

I think Xeno was talking to JBJ about his bad experience with the Compucam...

The rebuilt engine might just be peppier because of a new cam. As mileage goes up on an engine, the cam lobes get worn, What might have once been 0.393 stock gross intake lift might become 0.300 , and the engine loses power. This is probably what makes older V6's (like mine) have a lope-y idle- worn cam lobes. If I rebuild a V6, I hope to put my dial indicator on my current engine to find out what the lift of this +220,000 mile cam has become.

[edit] Hey!! Is anyone about to pull their valve covers off? Throw a dial indicator on the rocker arms, let us know what the gross lift has become! Er, of course, you'd need the dial indicator & stand... http://www.harborfreight.com used to sell some cheapies... I was almost going to buy one, then I lucked out on a good price (Christmas present) with a Mitutoyo!
