Engine swap - timing kit install
Engine swap - timing kit install
In the process of getting a new to me 2.8l ready to swap. Putting new timing gears on and the smaller lower one won't go all the way on. It stops about a 1/4" short. If I can post a pic I will. Any trick or tool needed to get it all the way on?

You can use a short pipe, a large washer , & the crank bolt to press it on the rest of the way. Or you can tap it on w/ a hammer.
When the gears are dot to dot, # 4 cylinder is TDC on compression stroke, not #1. GM uses both dots at 12 o'clock to time the engine for #1.

an old trick is to heat the gear up in the oven. use a welding glove to to put the gear on. it will just about slip right on. it will be a tight fit when it cools.
