Is it worth it?
1991 Camaro RS 3.1 liter V-6. Right now, the car is un-modded, except a K&N filter and slightly better than stock 7mm wires. (I heard anyhing over 7mm did jack sh*t for stock 6's) The car's body is in great condition..only minor dings, almost completely rust free except for a little fang mark or two of it fom a chip in the paint. The interior is great, except for the carpeting. Gotta get it cleaned..I work in fast food, so I track grease and crap onto the carpet and I stained it pretty bad. I'm hoping to get $3000 for the car... It's got 98,500 miles on it. My question is.I want to start doing mods, but is it worth it? I just want an honest opinion..do you guy think I should hold off and don't touch the 6 and wait until I can find a 305/350 tuned port/carbed v-8? I've got $750 to spend right now. I can petty much already predict what you guys are gonna say..but I'd still like to hear it. I've put a lot of money into his car already just fixing problems. Missing tranny mount, blown radiator, bad fuel filter, bad distributor o-ring...but it's almost problem-free now. And the tranny is still shifting real strong. Thanks guys.

Its not very complicated if you want the rubber burning power and acceleration of a V-8; buy one, its your money and your car.
There are a few things you should look into though, insurance rates... and gas milage, if you can handle both of them, then buy the V-8. I am not saying I do not like the V-6, personally I enjoy my car, but if its not what you like then go the direction you want.
If the above seems out of reach, tune the V-6 a little, for a couple hundred you can have some fun. Also you said your car is in good shape, so you do have a solid foundation to work on, you might buy another car and just have problems...
I would keep the V-6 a while, then move up to the V-8, but its up to you.

Yeah, I see all of your points. The car is running good...for now anyways. But I dunno..it was treated like crap and I've had to make so many repairs already for only 98,000 miles..I'm not sure if there are other problems I don't know about. Already, I've replaced my:radiator, tranny mount, starter, headlights, distributor o-ring, and tie-rod end. My tachometer is faulty and my speedometer sticks at 0 sometimes.. The car shakes and shimmies around 40..I'm guessing tranny or torque converter.. The car has problems keeping steady on the throttle..thinking sensor. When I pull tight turns, I hear grinding and squealing..dunno what causes that. Still leaking around 3 little drops a day of oil..much better vs. the quart a week-2 weeks of before. So, as you can see...I might still have bugs in it. I think I'm going to fix it up cosmetically, and not do performance. Then when I can sell it, I can get the money back from the cosmetics..performance, you never get back what you put in.
Gas mileage and insurance costs aren't really an issue. The gas mileage difference between an L98 and a LHO is about 3mpg. The insurance shouldn't be that much different either. The amount of time and money that goes into a V6 to make it perform is excessive. Also once its to the point where it will perform, it won't be a very hospitable car. Conversely a stock V8 car will achieve the same performance and still function as reliably as when it rolled off the showroom floor.
