Mufflers
What do you guys suggest/use/etc.? I got some pace setter headers and am working down the line as far as parts go. I looked into the exhaust forum but pretty much anything engine related ont he forum is full of V8 stuff and everyone says to ask about V6 stuff here (which can get somewhat annoying). Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Mufflers
Well, it really depends on if you want a free flowing exhaust that has a distinct v6 sound or whether you'd be willing to sacrifice some back pressure for a deeper exhaust note.
Right now I'm running a turbo muffler in place of a cat on my 3.1; a little to loud for my taste but not a bad note.
I think what would give you the best sound and good flow would be: an upgraded cat, a turbo muffler, and a glasspack before the exhaust tip. That way it should get rid of some or most of that v6 whine. In theory.
I'll be testing the theory come this spring lol

Re: Mufflers
Heres what mine sounds like, its that dynomax cat back system. I got it outta summit a few years back for IIRC 170 bucks. I think it sounds good and isnt to loud, just a little throaty. I also have a magnaflow hi-flow cat.

Re: Mufflers
Thanks for the suggestions and input. Id like to avoid a catback setup. Idealy id like a nice deep throaty sound. Like i said, im just not in the know about whats good out there and what isnt. Its even harder since every setup on every car will sound somewhat different.

Here is a direct fit muffler
http://www.ebay.com/itm/82-92-Camaro...item2ea07c3372
But for not much more you can get the entire catback
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-V8-Cama...item2ea09e2bfb
My experience is this catback sounds great on a 3.1L camaro.

Re: Mufflers
Personally one of the best V6s I have ever heard is my toyota solara using a borla turbo muffler with dual perforated resonators. Super quiet cruising but really wakes up when you punch it. But that motor is a different beast than the camaro V6.
The super turbos sound good on our motors but if you ditch the cat get a resonator to keep down the rasp.

Re: Mufflers
On mine I have the magnaflow cat and the super turbo cat back. It doesn't sound loud at all and I've noticed great performance from it too. Let me know if you'd like a sound clip of it.

Very nice!
I'm getting ready to pull of my Hooker Supercomp kit and go with TD's and an X pipe to get back to where my old Z24 sounded... I just can't get used to the single exhaust sound after having TD's for so many years.

Re: Mufflers
Firebird 305, id love a sound clip.
After some reading and calling around it seems like the catcack (or similar) setup is the way to go for me at this moment after all.
That being said, what are my catback options? So far i know of dynomax super turbo setup but havnt really seen any others. Im not really looking for LOUD but a nice throaty tone would be great.
Whatever exhaust i get will be used with pace setter headers and a magnaflow cat.

Re: Mufflers
You said thats louder than the turbo, how much louder? Links to said parts would be great as well. Thanks
I found both of those setups. I wonder if the drone free thing is more of a gimmick or it actually works.

Re: Mufflers
the drone free things works.... the ultra flo is a straight through design which is noticebly louder then the turbo.... i had the turbo til it rusted, put the ultra flo ss on and couldnt be happier.... really great sound from strart up to wot... sounds like a race car as the car climbs rmps

But I like the true dual/x-pipe idea. I'll have to try that.

That sounded great at idle but not so great when he got on it. Actually, it sounded kinda aweful when not at idle. imo

Re: Mufflers
lol, that's the exact sound that i'm trying to get rid of on mine..
I don't think i have a good dedicated exhaust video, i'll take one before i take the Hoooker Supercomp system off in a few weeks.
Here is something totally different that i'm sure most people haven't heard... This guy built a set of 180 degree headers, basically paring up the cylinders for a completely balanced system.
