Bouncing gas gauge

the gas gauge in my car bouncing around a lot. i never know really know the fuel level in my gas tank because of it. is there some type of delay the gauge should have so it doesn't constantly change? or is it a sign of the gauge going bad?

nope, this is a classic 3rd gen issue. The fuel tank sender is going bad.
