1982 2.8L Carby to 3.1 Injected
Hi Guys,
Im from australia so parts are pretty hard to come by down here. I have a 1982 camaro 2.8l V6 carby car right now.
I also have sitting outside a 3.1l injected engine from what i think is out of a 1991 firebird.
I know the engine sway will be easy but how hard would it be to wire the engine up going from carb to injected? is there an afternmarket wiring harness out there?
I want to do the injected swap because i want to do the turbo install at a later date, thanks.

You will also need to do something about an electric fuel pump , The carb's existing mechanical pump setup will not properly feed a fuel injection system .
For all you will need beyond just the engine , can you find a wrecked one with FI to take the required parts from ? .....

Re: 1982 2.8L Carby to 3.1 Injected
Here in australia it is very hard to come by a good camaro let alone a wrecked one.
Apart from the fuel pump which is an easy fix, there must be an aftermarket wiring harness for me to bolt the injection on top of the 2.8l in the car at the moment to get it running and then put the 3.1l in it after and turbo it.
so any ideas on a aftermarket wirting harness and computer to suit the v6 FI in a camaro?

try out a megasquirt standalone ecm.
its what i run in my turbo v6 car, a megasquirt 1 system will run u about 320.00 USD
that will get u a complete ecm and a universal harness and tuning cable for ur laptop
as long as the 3.1 has all the sensors on it u wont need to buy any, the only thing u would have to buy would be the connectors for the sensors to put on the end of the universal harness, and u would have to get some relays for things like the fuel pump
i always get my megasquirt stuff from diyautotune.com, but they are located in the usa , i do know there are megasquirt dealers in Australia though and i can get u a link to a website for one of the dealers if u need

Re: 1982 2.8L Carby to 3.1 Injected
Thanks for the info makes the job a lot easier, the engine has all the sensors and most of the wiring as well, is the megasquirt hard to hook up? does it come with a fair bit of info on how to hook all the wiring up?
Also is the version 2.2 the one that i should be using like in the link you posted?

Re: 1982 2.8L Carby to 3.1 Injected
if u buy the premade universal harness its very easy to hookup all the wires are labeled every 3 inches on the wire as to were they go.
u just run the wires to were they need to go and cut them to size then solder on the connector for the sensor on the end and plug it in
ithe ms 1 v2.2 wont control the idle air motor but u dont need it just set the idle via the idle adjustment screw and block off the iac motor
if u really want the iac control u need to use a megasquirt 2but thats 100$'s more , but if u can afford it its a nice upgrade but like i said it isnt necasary
the megasquirt will also control ur fuel pump, if ur car has an elctric fan the tempt sensor will turn that on and off , or u can wire the megasquirt to control the fan so u can adjust when it turns on and off
