Clean swap?

Hey, I'm a newbie to the forum. I got an 88 Firebird and it needs a new engine, it's v6 has rod knock and needs to be swapped out. A good friend of mine has an 88 Chevy Celebrity he's sellin for parts, anyone know if its 2.8L v6 would be a clean swap in?

Re: Clean swap?

just a side note,...those 2.8s are famous for sounding like a rod knock, when in fact its the timing chain all worn out and slapping around. is it over-heating? not saying its not a rod knock, but id check it out closely.

Re: Clean swap?

We have had a top-end engine rebuild done recently, and it has not fixed it, would rod knock have been solved by something like that, if so what else could it be?
