O2 Sensor
O2 Sensor
92 Firebird with 127,000 miles. Runs great, no codes. Did a tune up and changed the olugs and wires.
Do I need to change the O2 sensor as a matter of routine maintenance or wait until I get a code from the check engine light?
It looks like it will be tough to get it out as it is rusty around the threads.

Re: O2 Sensor
in the past i have removed them , cleaned sensor end with carb cleaner & re-installed with no problems . if i were to get an O2 code tomorrow i would try cleaning first . good luck .

Re: O2 Sensor
the single wire o2 sensor ur car uses is very cheap to replace about 17$'s
over time besides getting dirty the sensors do wear out and the signal it produces to the ecm slows down.
@ 127k miles i would replace the sensor since its so cheap, and the o2 sensor even if not bad but just starting to read sluggishly can cause a loose of power and bad gas milage
