Chipping and Boosting V6

Will the turbo fit of the 91 3.1 pontiac grand prix if I decide to stay with the V6?

Or

How much more hp can I get by chipping the V6?

Re: Chipping and Boosting V6

u could modify the fwd 3.1 turbo system, but the gains are minimal, they used way to small of a turbo for the engine

for about 900 bucks u can build ur own turbo system and make around 300 hp pretty easily

with a really good tune u could prolly pick up around 20 hp 15ftlbs tq

it would be much cheaper to just buy the chip burning stuff u need to tune the car but u wont see anywere near the kind of gains u would with a turbo

Re: Chipping and Boosting V6

I agree with dave on not useing the turbo off a turbo grand prix.. I think thats a T25 turbo??? Thats so small and youll be dissapointed with the power gains as soon as you get it going.

Theres alot of parts out there and my best friend was e-bay so heres just a few links as you can choose different sellers or whatnot.

Intercooler= http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-FR...9b61e2&vxp=mtr

Wastegate= http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-RE...b8c183&vxp=mtr

Blow off valve= http://www.ebay.com/itm/30-PSI-ADJUS...ec62d5&vxp=mtr

Turbo= http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CIVIC-...item3a5bcfb393

Various coulpers like these, depending on your piping= http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicon-coup...item256150c0ce

Wideband o2 sensor kit= http://14point7.com/SLC-DIY-2.php

Theres more parts but this gives you a idea of the bigger items.

Read up on project89's sticky and my Turbo guild if really interested. You can also buy a whole kit such as this= http://www.ebay.com/itm/T3-T4-T3-T4-...276b9a&vxp=mtr

Another guy on here(pillsbry10) used one similar to this and turboed his car, you still need a few things to make it work but this is a option to get alot of the parts in bulk.

Re: Chipping and Boosting V6

Will the computer have to be rechipped or reprogrammed for turbo?

Yea you would need to reprogram the chip if youd like to use the stock ecm(computer) I did my turbo build this way.

Heres the link on using a turbo kit. Pillsbry10's build, IIRC project89 helped on this too. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/5...my-3-4-t3.html

So what my options on the computer end of it? Which is the better route to go?

Re: Chipping and Boosting V6

Thats a loaded question and I dont wana start a huge mess of dissagreement.

I dont know whats the "best" way.
Project89 used a megasquirt system and loves it. So there is no way to say which is better. Its a preference I guess.

For my tuning, I really really like using the stock ecm and just tuning it that way.

Ok, I thought about just getting a seperate chip made that will work with the turbo so if ever decide to sell the car or use the turbo setup on something else I still have factory chip to fall back on.
