Don't know why cars not running

Hey guys I need some help with my car. I have a 1990 firebird 3.1l and randomly one day it started idling rough and wouldn't rev past 2000 Rpms and it was back firing so I replaced the fuel pump and filter and it still did the same thing so I replaced the distributor and timed it and now it doesn't start at all. It just cranks till the battery dies I'm thinking I didn't time it right I took spark plug one out and manually cranked it till air came out and I put the cap back on and put plug one on where the rotor pointed on the firing diagrams it says plug 5 should go there does it matter where I put spark plug one?

Well on the distributor cap it's spose to be 123456 but I have it 561234 would that matter as long as it's in order or does the one have to be in a specific spot?

LOL

Technically that's still 1-2-3-4-5-6.

There's no specific start point, as long as the rotor is pointing at each cylinder's spark plug terminal when that cylinder is at TDC compression stroke it will run.
