Re: 91 camaro timing issues

recheck firing order for the wires, but I feel You may have the dizzy 180 degrees off. Try to take the dizzy back off and rotate the crank 180 degrees. Then put it back together. Basically if it's not on the right compression stroke it will never fire off/your plugs will be so wet, so that's another thing to check.

Edit,I see that it just putters. Sorry I'm on the phone and it sues trying to read things..lol.

Recheck firing order and plugs, if you get it to putter then get as timing light on it or spin that dizzy ASAP to get it to smooth out.

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

So do I rotate the rotor the opisite side. It's wired Cuzco last night I made markings and everything and put dizzy back in and it ran but was crappy. Then this morning my friend said I had to get cylinder 1 tdc and everysience I did that it won't start

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

Also I did redo the firing order 20 miss ago. I started with where the rotor was pointing and put can in same spot to match up and started there with cylinder 1 wire and then 23456. Didn't help

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

No timing light. Not putters but tries to start. I used the cylinder 1 air push my thumb method. DId I need to do the cylinder tdc if it ran last night when I just lined it back up

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

spin the distributor in one direction a lil bit and see if it starts and runs if not turn it the other way and see if it gets better.

u have to have a timing light to set the timing, my bet is that the timing is way late, does it pop and sputter rreally loudly out the ex system?

if it does the timing is super late and u need to spin the distributor counter clockwise

if it is poping and sputtering in the intake it it wat advanced and u need to turn the distributor clockwise

u will only be able to get the car to start and run without a timing light but the timing will be way off till u get a timming light

just to give u an example the engine will run with the timing off by as much as 20-30* it just wont run well

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

Actually the. Popping and stuff comes up front so I think is the intake. Does it matter that I put dizzy in the way I took it out last night if I redid the tdc on cylinder 1

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

Im gonna redo the tdc on 1 tom. Is it correct that tdc 1 is on compression stroke if the groove on crank matches the harmonic balancer scale 0 correct?

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

yes but the mark can be tdc on the intake or ex stroke so u have to put ur finger over the number 1 plug hole to make sure that its on the right stroke

and even if u set the balancer to 0* i.e tdc when u align the rotor to the number 1 terminal the timing isnt going to be 0*, thats why u need the timing light to finely adjust it

It tries to start but the dizzy won't turn any father. If I could turn it a lily father to the left it probably would start

The jump in timing with the EST/BYPASS reconnected is correct and normal. Be sure to set the timing at 10* BTDC with the EST/BYPASS open and the engine warmed up.

If your car has an auto transmission need to do the idle learn procedure. Drop "idle + learn" into the search box with my name as the author.

RBob.

Re: 91 camaro timing issues

Set the timing to 10* with the ect off, then Shut the car OFF, reconect the ect wire, Then take your - batt terminal off for 1 minuet to reset the computer then hook the - batt cable back on. Then do the idle relearn like Rbob said. Easy to do and takes just a few min.
