Serpentine Belt Question
Serpentine Belt Question
92 Firebird, 3.1 V-6. The AC compressor pulley bearing went out. It literally seized up on me on the highway. I limped in to an Advance Auto and bought a belt for a non AC 3.1 and bypassed the seized up pulley.
Where the belt goes from the power steering pulley to the belt tensioner pulley there is about a papers width of clearance where the top of the belt from the water pump is running, In other words the belt is almost rubbing against itself where it comes back the other way.
I installed a 1/2 inch shorter belt, and that has helped, but with any stretch or wear on the belt and they will be rubbing against each other.
Any suggestions?

Re: Serpentine Belt Question
the power steering pump has 2 mounting locations on some cars/ look at the top bolt hole u may be able to remove the bolt and slide the bracket to the rleft which will raise the ps pump pulley up a lil which will give more clearance were the belt passes the water pump
