1992 camaro rs 3.1 issue with backfiring
Was driving home from work today and engine lost some power and backfired with some black smoke got home engine will try and start but will backfire and die out. Have spark from both coil and plug wires. A little bit of corrosion was on the coil cleaned it off. To late to attempt anything else at the moment here. Tomorrow will be taking off cap and checking for and movement in the distributor itself for possible timing issue being thrown off as well as picking up some ether to check if its a fuel issue. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Vehicle doesn't have the smog pump if that may cause a vacuum issue? Wires and cap/rotor about a year old may pick up new anyways as they arnt too expensive. Thank you for any help and input.

Sounds like it jumped time, maybe a clogged cat. Did it happen all at once, it was running fine and then poop? Get a Haynes manual for your car and look up your symptoms in the trouble shooting guide. After you have followed the manuals instructions, if you are still stumped come tell us what you found.

yes it was running fine. Just changed plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor noticed play on the shaft where the rotor sits. Possible bad distributor? Wont start still sprayed starting fluid into air intake still wouldnt fire up so im guessing nothing wrong with fuel system i believe i hear fuel pump going on as well.
