Hard cold start
Hard cold start
Hey Guys
I have a 86 Camaro with 2.8 in it and have a problem with it starting after sitting for a few hours. I had some overheating problems and fixed them. I installed a aftermarket adjustable fan controller and a temp and oil pressure gauge. When I installed the fan controller I removed the small sensor on the intake and for the temp gauge I removed the sending unit from the head behind the AC compressor. The engine runs fine after warmed up.When I first start it I have to play with the gas pedal to keep it running to warm up. I don'tknow anything about the cold start system on this engine. Can anyone help? PLEASE

Re: Hard cold start
Was the sender for the intake a 1 or 2 wire sender?
The coolant temp sensor (for the ecm) is a 2 wire sensor.
I'd start by checking the fuel pressure & bleed down rate, it should hold pressure (35psi or higher) for awhile. I think these have a cold start injector too, that might be acting up.

Re: Hard cold start
The smaller of the two sensors screwed into the front of the intake manifold is the cold start injector sensor , and it must be put back where it was to solve your problem .
Were you not curious as to what you were eliminating by taking out that sensor ? In it's stock configuration , our cars need ALL of the sensors that GM built them with to be properly functioning for the engine to run correctly . Open circuit any one of em , and you will have troubles of one sort or another .
