Rocker Arms?

hey well i looked but didnt see anything about my questions so i thought i ask. i got an edelbrock cam 3790. and i thought it would be great to change out the rocker arms, but it specifies that i use only stock ratio rockers. so my question is 1.5 is the stock ratio? and what would be a great kit to add to this set up?

Re: Rocker Arms?

yes, 1.5:1 is the stock ratio. you can go to 1.6 rockers and get the valve lift up from .420/.442 to .448/.471. some people have reported clearance issues with 1.6 rockers under the stock valve covers, though. might want/need to consider aftermarket valve covers if you decide to go to 1.6 rockers.

Re: Rocker Arms?

Its just telling you that that's the valve lift with the stock rocker arm ratio which in our case is 1.5:1.

Re: Rocker Arms?

if ur local junkyard has any 2.8 fieros those have taller valve covers that will fit the 1.6 rockers as well, and they look 100X better then those chromed stamped edelbrock covers

Re: Rocker Arms?

Okay so I got the can and rocker arms. Can anyone suggest oil to break in the cam and I heard you can torque the the rockers a little less then what it is supposed to to help ease the wear of the cam. So any ideas on how the best way to break in a cam and rocker arms.

Re: Rocker Arms?

Just use your normal oil. 5w30 or whatever your engine says to put into it. But stop by napa and get some lucas oil engine break in. It has zzdp in it. Helps the break in process. You also will want to prime your oil pump before start up if you can. You have to remove the dizzy and stick a 5/16th or 8mm with a long extention (I cant remember right now the right size) down onto the oil pump shaft and spin it with a drill at full speed for a good minuet. Its easier to do this when the valve covers are off if you want to make sure that your spinning it the right way.

When I broke in my cam I started it up with a big fan in front of the radiator (to make sure it didnt over heat because I new the timing wasent right) I immediatly reved from 2k rpms to 3k rpms constantly. Dont just hold it at a certaint rpm. You want to vary the engine speed. Do this for a good 20-25 minuets. I know it seems like a long time but after you do this, change the oil with a new filter and your good to go.

Then after that unhook your esc wire and set your timing to the appropriate degrees BTDC. Turn car off, plug esc back in, and then reser the ecm. Start it back up and do the idle relearn and your good to go. This is if your ecm is like late model thirdgens. Im not very familiar with carbed 2.8's at all as for the ecm stuff.

Re: Rocker Arms?

stock ratio is SUPPOSED to be 1.5.1 .. however it pretty much is inconsistent from rocker to rocker..more like 1.45.1 or so..GM is awesome!!
