3.4 exhuast question about muffler choice
3.4 exhuast question about muffler choice
hey all so in additon to my 85 iroc im picking up a clean 94 3.4 manual
iv had v6 third gens before and before we debate about the raspy sound i know theres not much avoiding
but all iv ever put on a 660 was a flowmaster 40 and an 80 series
now i have an 80 series for it already but i was woundering if any one has found a better muffler choice that kills some of the 2500+ rpm rasp

magnaflow or one of the spintech mufflers, flowmasters only sound decent at idle from 2K+ they sound horid on the v6
a small bullet muffler in the intermediate pipe also helps kill some of the rasp

Id stay away from flowmaster if at all possible. I had a dynomax cat back system before. Soundeed good i think. Nice deeper mellow sound.
Re: 3.4 exhuast question about muffler choice
yea i blowmasters sound great from idle to 2500 but after that its sounds absolutly horrible, i was just thinking because i have an extra 80 series laying around
and i didnt know hooker made a cross flow muffler for our cars?
and iv put magnaflow on a v8 camaro before and a DOHC cavalier and they both sounded like ***

I had good sound w/the dynomax cat back (fwiw, the i-pipe fits sideways in the back of a 76 bonneville), it even sounded good when the 305 was swapped in.

That's a Supercomp kit for a 3rd gen V8 (Aerochamber Crossflow muffler, 3" I pipe, dual 2.5 out).
I had it on mine for a while and it didn't sound bad at all but my V6 sounds a little different than stock.. lol
I'm sure they have 4th gen kits that will work as well. Or you can buy just the muffler if your stock pipe is in good shape.

I always say cherrybomb glass pack, yes it sounds like a V8 with a rotted out muffler, [not 100% great] but it totally hides the V6 sound at all RPMs, everyone always assumes its a big 8 by ear.

Re: 3.4 exhuast question about muffler choice
I'm debating between the Dyno Max cat back or getting a mid pipe and maknig my own set up, with say a Summit Racing street/strip muffler and just one tucked outlet. I can part together my own catback cheaper than the Dynomax kit and it might sound better.
