damn it.....

So my car was running great till today. Noticed when I started the car today a belt squeal was there but went right away.
Five blocks away from my house at a stop sign the car dies. No codes just died. Restarted, drove to the store no problem. Started car at store to come home, temp shoots up to halfway between middle and major damn meltdown. When I'd accelerate it kinda stumbled then kicked in. Drove smooth otherwise. Got home, went upstairs . Came back down for something to find a BIGGGGGGG *** puddle of antifreeze close to the passenger front tire.

WTF???
what could this be? Hopefully not head gasket or freeze plug. Would water pump act that way?

Re: damn it.....

A big puddle should mean that it will b pretty easy to find. If your hoses are stock, there are quite a few hoses on that side of the car. Check those out first. Check your oil out, if it looks clean its hopefully not a head gasket.

Re: damn it.....

OK thanks. I'll check them both this morning.
My heater is blowing kinda cool. I was thinking it was due to the 160° thermostat.

Re: damn it.....

Beltsqueal plus engine shut off plus temp rising plus puddle:
one of the pulleys is shot and/or the belt ripped apart, resulting in no battery charging, no water circulation plus overboil on the passenger side and normally tougher steering.

Operating temperature vs power and longevity!

Re: damn it.....

Awesome article gumby! I'm changing to a 180° Friday.

Ncc- belt is fine, and car started right back up and drove. All pulleys spin freely.

Checked oil, no milky look. Hoses look good clamps are tight. Heater valve isn't leaking or cracked. I'll replace the thermostat (180° thanks again for the article gumby) and water pump. Then look towards freeze plugs.I guess during doing freeze plugs, I might as well delete the smog bs as well. It's already tuned out of the ECM.
Does anybody know if they make an electric water pump for our cars? Or would it be worth it for the tiny amount of parasitic drag vs gain I get with one?
