slight backfiring issue

hello i have a 89 2.8 with a slight backfiring issue whenever im driving or idling it is okay but if i press the throttle abruptly like if i were to rev my car it would back fire when i press the throttle down, now i bought this car with a cat delete and some mickey mouse'd looking custom dual piping could that be the issue? also no check engine light or anything.

Re: slight backfiring issue

My 3.1 backfires like a shotgun when decelerating off a freeway.
But mine is from a couple broken exhaust studs causing an exhaust leak.
Local shop wants $1000 to fix. Not gonna happen. After bills, every month I'm doing good to see $125. And that goes for gas and med co-pays .
