Car loses horsepower and acceleration while driving

When I start the car and go almost right after starting and driving for 5 to 10 min and it has lots of acceleration and horsepower and shifts smooth, but after a few minutes it feels like the tranny is tight when it shifts and has a lot less power and acceleration. Is there any reason why it's doing this? It's also carbureted

Have you checked fuel pressure while hot? A failed o2 sensor failed coolant temp sensor and maf sensor will all do this. Also could be a short between your distributor cap and rotor. What have you checked and whats new

Re: Car loses horsepower and acceleration while driving

It's carbureted so it doesn't have a maf sensor, but how do I check the fuel pressure? And if it was a failing 02 sensor wouldn't I be getting a check engine code? I did a tune up and the car starts a little rough and takes a few times to start sometimes, the cap was a little loose but I tightened it as much as I could, should I take off the cap and Rotar and do it agian?

I had a bad o2 sensor and it never gave me a ses light. Check fuel pressure at the check valve on the fuel rail should be 34-47.... Wait what year is your car.

u have a carb car there is no fuel rail
the person that has been replying to u thinks u have a fuel injected car even after u told him it was carb'ed

how does the engine run overall, does it miss and sputter or does it idle nice and smooth and drive smooth?

by losing power what exactly do u mean, these v6 engines run better when they are cold , so as they warm up they lose a lil bit of power but not much

has the carb ever been rebuilt and is it the original carb ?

last time u did a full tune up, checked the ignition timing?

Re: Car loses horsepower and acceleration while driving

It Idles rough and will idle up and down. The engine runs but it feels like it is being choked or restricted when warned up, say if its cold and I press the gas all the way it picks up speed fast and has a little kick but once it's warmed up and I press on the gas it is a lot slower and feel restricted and has no kick. It is the original Carb and it has never been re built. I did a full tune up roughly 1200 miles ago but after the tune up the car didnt start up as well and makes a zinging noise when it does. And I have never gotten the timing checked, how do I do that?

u will need a timing light on ur car im not sure if the timing is ecm controled or not so somone a lil more knowledgeable will have to chime in on the exact procedure for u

for now pull out a few spark plugs and see what they look like they should be a light tan color

white or black is no good and will reveal if the engine is running out of fuel or has to much
