Are the coolant temp sender and sensor the same thing?

So i got code 15 from the check engine light. According to this website http://sethirdgen.org/dtc.htm that means that somethings up with the coolant sensor circuit. Now whenever i have searched thirdgen.org everyone says the coolant temp sensor is on the drivers side cylinder head but according to my repair manual thats the sender NOT sensor. Is there a difference? And i have also found the locations of various others "coolant temp sensors" on thirdgen.org. Could these also be responsible for my code 15 and check engine light?

The one in the front of the drivers side cylinder head is the one for the gauge. The one that throws a code is in the intake manifold. The easy way to tell the difference is that the sender has only one wire and the sensor has two.

In the intake manifold? Would i have to remove the manifold or is it easy to reach without having to dismantle anything? And could you maybe show me a pic of where it is and what it looks like? i want to make sure autozone isnt selling me a sender or something other than the sensor.

Re: Are the coolant temp sender and sensor the same thing?

I replaced the sensor by the thermostat housing (it broke in my hands while i tried unscrewing it by hand so i knew it was bad). The code 15 (coolant temp sensor) is gone and even my code 34 (maf sensor) is gone too. Im relieved because the maf sensor ir pretty new and they're not cheap/ i got a different check engine light that comes on while i drive but ill look at that later. Thanks you everyone for your help.
