Problems with newly purchased V6 car

i got a 92 firebird a couple months ago and it worked fine, just a small oil leak. i fixed the oil leak easy, just a couple of loose bolts. about a month ago everytime i would turn it on it wont stay running. it starts fine but then it almost dies, then it revs back up to normal and almost dies again and repeats that a couple of times then eventually just turns off. if i remove the fuel filter, let the gas line drain then put it back on the car works fine until the next day. any ideas on what could be causing it

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter? I am guessing you have since you took bled the line of gasoline. If the car happened to be sitting for a long time maybe some crud got in the gas tank. The idle could be caused by lots of issues. Vaccume leaks are an example.

As you posted on the V6 board assume it's the 3.1? best thing to do is get a Chilton's manual and start reading up on the engine and the computer etc. etc. If the engine is all original you'll probably need to replace the injectors and fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. Then cleaning the throttle body and passages inside it. Check for vacuum leaks and so on. None of it is difficult. You just need to be methodical. And don't buy a bunch of stuff if you don't know what's wrong. And don't forget Seafoam or similar gas additive to clean the inside of the engine. It worked wonders on mine.
