code 34
code 34
hi guys i have an 87 2.8L mpfi and its showing a code 34 low voltage to the MAF. i hooked up my computer to the car and it shows 8 volts going to the MAF while the car is running. How many volts should the MAF be getting? 12? and if so any suggestions on how to trace the problem? i changed the relay next to the sensor and i can't find any exposed wire anywhere...

Re: code 34
You have it backwards... The ECM code is for MAF signal low, not low power going into it. However, if you unplug the MAF and probe the orange wire, there should be 12V with the key on (relay only turns on with ignition).
The V6 MAF is funny in that the output is NOT a voltage signal (most other cars have a 0-5V output) but a 32-160 Hz FREQUENCY signal.
Make sure everything in the air intake is tightened down so there are no air leaks (and also look for cracks in the bellows and other parts) and check for the MAF code after resetting the ECM by disconnecting the battery for a minute. If the MAF code comes back, you will need to remove and examine the orange film in the MAF. If the film doesn't look completely flat, you will need to find a new sensor. Get a can of MAF cleaner if the film looks okay and clean it. Make sure the sensor is dry before reinstalling it.
