'91 3.1 RPM surge while braking and turning
3.1, auto, 78k miles.
Whenever I come to a stop the RPM's drop from about 1500 to below 500. This also happens when I'm turning. It progressively gets worse the warmer the engine is. This has caused my car to die while driving a few times, and only when it dies does it show the SES light, so I'm not able to get codes. I've searched and haven't been able to find an answer or a situation similar to mine.
I'd like to get some help before I throw parts at it. Does anyone know what this could be? thanks!

Might be a problem related to the IAC valve. It needs to open to compensate for the load of power steering. It also needs to be open to let the engine idle in general, so it could explain both problems.
I'd probably try taking out the IAC, and see if you can clean out the passages in the throttle body. The IAC itself might be bad, I don't know how you can verify that except replacing it though.
