Plastigauge or Not

I am starting the reassembly of the 3.4L block for my 92 3.1 to 3.4 swap. The machine shop got a 0.010 turned crank and new bearings for the 3.4 when they put in the new cam bearings and honed the cylinders. What's your thought on the necessity of running through the whole plasti-gauge routine for the bearings on the mains and rods?

Thanks...

good idea, seen to many sloppy shops that think, good enough for what your doing, if their not impressed with your engine or build of choice.

Re: Plastigauge or Not

I trust no machine shop, I plasti-gauge ALL bearings and check ALL ring gaps before assembly. Then clean everything back up and assemble, It's done to find any issues before the engine is in the car and have piece of mind know'n it's right...... I don't like do'n things twice.....

Re: Plastigauge or Not

So, anybody know what size plastigage and the acceptable measurements for the main and rod bearings for the 95 3.4L block?

Also, are the torque specs for the 3.4L main and rod bolts on here somewhere?

Thanks...

Re: Plastigauge or Not

Use .001 to .003 plasti-gauge, A good number is .002 on most all engines. While your at the auto parts store buying plasti-gauge (one strip will do) buy a Chilton's manual for your car, It should have all the specs and torque patterns needed for re-assembly.....
