Question about Fuel Sending Unit Choice
Question about Fuel Sending Unit Choice
Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I've been on here but I've looked on multiple sites and on TGO and can't seem to get a straight answer.
Earlier this year, I posted on here to try to get my 88 RS 2.8L back up and running. I knew from the last time that I had it running that it needed a fuel sending unit (would fill up to full then flutter back down to empty over about 20-30 miles but only use about a gallon of gas). Since then, I've also found out that the car is going to need a fuel pump so I just want to do it all at once. I'm going to drop the rear axle and take the tank out and clean it really good (don't want to cut the body inside to get to the sending unit since the car only has 28,xxx original miles.
Anyways, I'm kind of confused by this whole "harness code" thing I keep seeing when I look at sending units and pumps. I keep seeing the harness codes FEG, FPL and FGH. Some units only call for FGH, some all for FPL, some call for all three codes. I'm particularly looking into getting the AC Delco sending unit (calls for a FGH code) and the Delphi fuel pump.
How do I go about telling what pump and unit I need to get based off of the "harness code?" I'm completed confused and I've looked for quite a while through Google searches and the search bar on TGO and I'm coming up empty.
Can anyone shine some light on how I find out what unit and pump I should get for my car? Or can anyone at least tell me how to find out what the code is for the harness on my car?
By the way, my car is a 1988 Camaro RS with the 2.8L 173ci engine and it's also an automatic (not sure on trans type
, I assume it's a 700)
Thanks so much in advance everyone! You're life savers!
