Possible Oil Pump problem

1986 Pontiac Firebird 2.8L V6

So here is the deal, not sure what it is but I'm leaning towards a bad oil pump. I haven't tested anything yet because of lack of money! This is the problem I am having: When my car is started I hear a noise similar to a playing card in the bicycle spokes. When I accelerate it gets even louder. When I come to a complete stop or put the car in park after driving it, the oil light comes on and off. This all started to happen when I found out my headlight switch went bad, and was killing my battery. When jumping my car this noise started to happen. So like I said I believe its a bad oil pump but I have no idea. Thanks for any suggestions guys!

Have you poked around under the hood to find out what area the noise is coming from? It could be any one of a gazillion things...

Might also take it to have an oil pressure test done...

Re: Possible Oil Pump problem

when my oil pump went bad i went to three different mechanics and they all said it was a bad lifter now to worry about it well engine over heated and slung a rod burnt bearing and no rings on the pistons so now im out of a motor for mine never seen a check engine light or anything until it over heated just putting my two cents in but if it is your oil pump listen very closely to the bottom end and see what they can bring up
