EGR

What are the benefits of deleting the EGR? If I remove smog pump and EGR, can I leave the cat or remove it too? Thanks.

Re: EGR

I'm by no means mechanically inclined and there are a lot of guys here who could easily blow me out of the water with their knowledge so any of you guys at any time feel free to chime in or correct me if I'm mistaken.

What I was always told was that a lot of the environmental devices installed on cars after the 70's (such as the cat) was to limit the amount of pollution emitted from cars' exhaust and that deleting or bypassing any of it sometimes would on occasion add a very miniscule amount of power but not much. In my opinion though, it just seems to me that bypassing like the EGR and such seems to benefit our third gens more than harm them but again, I could be wrong. My grandpa had nothing but problems with his cat on his truck so he had it cut off and its ran fine ever since. The government probably frowns on it but the chances of any government agent looking under your car or hood is slim to none. I feel like you'd probably be better off talking to any of these other guys but that's just my two cents from heresay.

Benefits of keeping the EGR are reduced noX emssions obvoiusly LOL and reduced cylinder charge temperature due to the gasses recirculating already being warmer or more dense when mixed with the cool air being sucked in. in turn lower peak temps.

i personally am going to delete mine because of my headers i am going to install and i wanted the neater look.

i guess it all comes down on where you are located (emssions Standards) and what you want from out of the car..

the only thing im not to sure about as yet is going to be getting rid of the engine light for throwing an egr code. but im sure other members have lots of expirence in that field.
