3.4L Break In Heat?
Ok, got past the start problem and quickly set the timing to about 8 degrees.. Ran it up to 1500 to 2000 rpm for 20 minutes.. It got pretty hot but the gauge said it was working normally.. Hit 245 or so, fan kicks in and drops back to 220... Exhaust was pretty hot.. Noticed some plastic bubbling on the EGR valve... The radiator water was boiling back into the plastic holding tank near the end... Hope it is not overheating too much.. Sound normal on breakin with new bearings, rings, cam and lifters??
Its cooling down now for another 20 minute breakin run in the morning (too late for the neighbors now... Will see if it will do better with less heat tomorrow I guess...
Thanks....

Try putting a box fan in front of the radiator too. It should not be bubbling back, are you using water coolant? Coolant has a higher boiling point than water, even under pressure. It can be normal to run a bit hotter if you have tight tolerances. I'd also set timing to 10 degrees, that's what the factory specs were.
What kind of modifications do you have? This can have a big impact on everything as well. Cam, injectors, any head work, high compression, etc. What temp t-stat do you have? What temp does it hold at when you are driving at 50mph down the road?

Got past the initial run.. Gauge was acting normal.. My radiator cap was a bit loose so that is probably why it was boiling back.. It did get pretty hot though.. The second run was hot but much cooler than the first.. Except for the slightly more aggressive comp cam, all is stock.. Everything seems to be going fine now and have over 500 miles on the engine..
Thanks.
Thanks.

That is normal, stock they are meant to run 220 + for emmsions, it also sucks the life out of them, keep the temps under 200F at all times if you can.
