So I have a 1985 s/e v6 I have heard these cars are rare but I was wondering how rare they actually are. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The only possible thing that's "rare" about a 6 banger third gen , is the fact that it's made it 30 years and some boy racer type hasn't already ripped out the 6 to put an 8 cyl in !

Yes , the 1989 3.8 L Turbo six TA IS rare , with only like 1500 or so made .

But a 2.8 L or 3.1 L "regular" six banger ? COMMON AS DIRT and 100% certainly and honestly has no "rarity" to it whatsoever . Sorry to burst your "rare" bubble here , but whoever you heard from that our sixes are "rare" really needs an education in third gen F bodys , as to what's truly rare . The "SE" firebird is like the "RS" camaro , an entry level grocery getter put on the road for the cheapest price possible cause the original purchaser wouldn't (or couldn't) lay out the bucks for all the go fast goodies but still wanted a good looking car . That's it . Sad to say . But if you want rare , rather than "rare" , best be huntin down one of those TTA's , and expect to lay out $25 to $50 THOUSAND dollars for the honor of actually being able to call your ride rare .........

( For purposes of this discussion , "rare" means ; Half baked , not fully informed notions that any kinds of 2.8 or 3.1 are somehow limited in production or availability and thus as desirable as , say , a TTA or GTA or any other of the top tier performance packages are)

Orange I'm not sure I get it. So you're saying it's not really rare?

Well... let's look at the numbers, shall we?
1985 firebird production, total was 95,880 for all types. Of those we have:
Base Firebird: 46,644
Firebird S/E: 5,208
Trans Am: 44,028

Going by the numbers, the 1985 Firebird S/E was only 5.4% of firebird production.

However, that does not mean that it is any more desirable than the base Firebird, of which 46,644 were made that year. The S/E was a base firebird with most of the luxury options added to it. Most people either just optioned up a base model, or opted for the performance-oriented Trans Am.

Good thing was that being an 1985 model, the 2.8 liter engine got the Multi-port fuel injection.
