84 2 BBL 2.8 Not Getting Fuel to Carb

Hey all, just bought a new project (Third Gen #5) last week and have been tracking down some problems. It is an 84 with the 2.8. 2 barrel with mechanical fuel pump.

When I bought it the guy said it was having carb problems. When I fed some fuel to the carb it fired up and ran. I started tracking the fuel lines and found one that had ruptured. So I cut it out and replaced it. Upon further investigation, the main fuel line right at the tank had been put back together with rubber hose which melted or broken down so much that it made about an inch long solid blockage right in the middle, which I suspect is what caused the fuel line rupture I originally found. With all new gas lines I figured it would fire right up. Fed it more gas and tried to fire it off. No luck. No fuel is getting to the carb at all.

The car does not have the fuel filter by the driver side back tire. Is there a filter I am missing? Being a mechanical carbed car I'm guessing there isnt a fuel pump in the tank as well. Some Firebirds had both Mech and Electircal but I dont think Camaros do. Am I wrong? I don't even have the fuel pump option on my fuse block. Just a blank.

I know its a computer controlled carb so maybe I am missing a sensor or a relay? I would honestly have no idea. I learned on bone basic 350 swaps, electrical is not my thing at all. I would swap it to non computer controlled but I read that will mess with the 700r4. The car will be getting a 350 swap, just not right now. I want the v6 to run until I get around to the swap.

Something obvious I might be over looking? Thanks in advance! -Cody

Update: replaced mechanical fuel pump and all fuel lines. Cleaned strainer on inside of tank and blew out debris from fuel sending unit. Still no fuel to carb. Stuck

check all the sending unit lines, i have an 84' 2.8l carb and somebody went through the trouble of cutting a hole in the trunk right above the tank to change the ends of the lines leading into the sending unit.... could have been a common problem with our cars.... nevermind just read you got all new lines.... id check on having the carb cleaned, could be blocked off somewhere in there

I know this thread is a little older, but check the paper fuel filter where the fuel line goes into the carburetor on the driver's side. You'll see that the fuel line goes into a larger round fitting that is attached to the carburetor. That fitting houses the fuel filter on these engines.

I had one plug up on me before that would starve the carb for fuel to the point that the car was stalling when trying to accelerate. If your fuel lines were plugged up further back, some of that crud could have made it to the paper filter at the carburetor.

I don't remember what size wrench you need to remove the filter housing...maybe a 1-in. Use an open end wrench...not really enough room to turn a crescent wrench, in my experience.
