2.8 Swap Questions

Having trouble finding a thread for this but I have an 89 firebird with a blown 2.8. I'm really just looking for an easy swap, pull the 2.8, swap everything to the new block and heads and put it back in without modifying anything. I've had a lot of trouble getting my hands on a decent 2.8 but I read recently that a 3.1 from a firebird will bolt right up and I won't have any issues with modifying anything. Is that true? Also, would I be able to put a 3.4 in it without modifying anything? Thanks for the help!

yeah, a few bits and bobs aside, if you keep your fuel injection the 3.1 and 3.4 rwd blocks will be good .

Re: 2.8 Swap Questions

The 3.1 will swap right over. You can use the 3.1 heads too, they're all the same. The 3.4 is has a bit more to it, but still nothing that you shouldn't be able to handle. There are tons of threads on swapping a 3.4, read up and it should answer all your questions.

Great. I think I've found a decent 3.1 so we should be rolling soon! Thanks!

Re: 2.8 Swap Questions

I ran into some trouble with a 3.1 that ended up being FWD so I'm just double checking before I commit. This one's coming out of a firebird though so it should be fine.
