V6 to V8 please help
V6 to V8 please help
I have an iroc z 5.7 and a rs 2.8 both from 88.
This may be a dumb question but since both are from the same year and both from California swapping the 5.7 into the rs body should be very straight forward? And does anyone know if I would need anything else?

Is the 5.7's body falling apart? There is a sticky about this. Pretty much, almost everything from the 5.7 will need to be swapped. Engine, trans, wiring harness, ECM etc.
Re: V6 to V8 please help
Yeah the frame on the iroc is bent and I can't afford to get it straightened out. I called a shop about doing a swap for me but they quoted me 5000. That's never gonna happen. But they were talking about switching the steering column I can't think of one reason they'd need to do that.
Re: V6 to V8 please help
Switching the steering BOX, not the column might be a good idea. Does the V6 not have the stalk with the cruise controls on it or something stupid like that? Pretty much, it is doable, and if you have time and can turn a wrench. You can do it. Read up on it.
You'll need a good jack, jack stands, and an engine hoist. You'll want to replace the engine and trans mounts, the torque arm mount.
If you think you can do it, and have the energy and determination to see it through go for it. It just sucks when people get stuck and lose interest or decide they don't like working on cars and leave what was a running car in pieces.

Re: V6 to V8 please help
It does have cruise control on it. I've never done anything with a steering box before but I do have some experience rebuilding a couple engines and a bunch of suspension stuff so I'm not scared of the work. I've never done a swap so I guess I was just hoping I could get some guidance on that.
Thanks for being helpful.

Re: V6 to V8 please help
The swap forum is your best place to start looking. This has been done by many for many years. Do a search before posting though, I can just about guarnatee most questions you may have, have been answered there before.
This forum frowns upon the removal of a V6 for anything other than another V6 lol
