Re: Won't start. Help please!
Just wanted to you all thank you so much! The car is running better than it ever has. TPS ended up being bad which was not helping the idle issue. Replaced it and re did the timming as you all have suggested and it is running great. So again THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Glad to hear you have it up and running so much better. If you are doing more work you will find a factory service manual a great tool. Bishko sell a cd that has great trouble shooting charts.

Re: Won't start. Help please!
so I have a new problem... car idles fine but when going in gear it dies. If I put it in gear then push on the throttle it will drive fine but when I touch the brakes it dies. Im thinking the IAC but previous owner said he replaced it. Thoughts? I may replace it just to be safe.

Anyways I've just had to sort the idle on my car although it is a manual, I set the minimum idle, you may have to do that in drive, then reset the tps adjustment again. It got my car from wanting to die everytime I stopped.

Re: Won't start. Help please!
It's quite possible, but you have to start by setting the minimum air for the car following that tech article then set the tps position. Even if it's never been adjusted it may be wrong now , then at least you know everything is good there then .

Re: Won't start. Help please!
I'll be using a multimeter to test it but I am not sure what wires to put it on, link is kinda vague on that. I hmkniw I have seen some systems that the tps had 2 wires. Mine has 3. Anyone got a video on how to do this?

Re: Won't start. Help please!
If the car dies when you use the brakes it could be a vacuum leak. If you have access to a vacuum gauge run a test and see what reading you get.
If not try disconnecting the hose to the brake booster and plug it. Then hit the brakes and see if there is a change. Do this only while the car is not moving.
Below is the TPS WIRING.

Re: Won't start. Help please!
turns out that the wires on my lock cylinder are broke from previous owner so I am guessing the VATS is going off because after going in gear i can go about a block then just dies. Looks like I'll be getting a new ignition key lol

Re: Won't start. Help please!
got the lock cylinder replaced and everything seemed well. no security light or nothing. second I go to drive it pops up a code. checked it and it came back as 22. tps is new and I set it to .54 but I have a 2.8 in it not the 5.0 so would the setting for the tps be different?

Re: Won't start. Help please!
The code 22 indicates low voltage of .2 volts being received from TPS. Be sure the TPS had 12VDC on the blue wire and the black ground is a good ground. The grey feeds the TPS signal to the computer. Make sure the wiring it is not damaged or the connection loose at computer.
The TPS could a problem even if new. The .54 sounds familiar if my memory is correct.

Re: Won't start. Help please!
I'll have to check the voltage this weekend. The page I found of codes said that 22 was out of adjustment?

Re: Won't start. Help please!
so I got off early from work so I checked the voltage and it is coming out correctly. Im wondering if it might have moved since the bolts had to be replaced by screws (only temp. no where near me has the #10-32 x 1" with a hex head ). I will reset the TPS and then pull the battery for 10 min to clear the codes.

Re: Won't start. Help please!
So the tps was way out of adjustment. Got it back to the .54 and that code is gone. Now it's giving a 42 code.

So it turns out the connected on the coil was bad. Replaced it and no more 42 code! Still dies when going in gear though. Only has the maf code now. Any clue?

Re: Won't start. Help please!
The errors codes for MAF are
33 GM per second high
34 GM per second low
Try disconnecting the MAF connector and see if it stalls going into gear.
The 3 wire connection for MAF
PIN A=Orange black 12VDC
Pin B=Brown White signal or voltage out to ECM
Pin C=Black ground
Have you done fuel pressure test and vacuum test?
