3.1 Misfire Sputter

So my car was running on 5 cyl due to me putting a wrong spark plug cable on my no. 2 cyl. I guess it was shorting to ground. I ran it like this for maybe a day. So then I buy brand new set of cables . Pop them in and everything was good. But then after a few mins of driving, the misfire starts coming back . It begins to sputter as it shifts gears and going down the road. I thought maybe I fouled out the no 2 plug so I popped in a new plug and same thing. I have some r43ts plugs in it. The plug that was in there was yellow looking. Same thing again starts sputtering like its running on 5. I'm stumped. Did I mess something up? Coolant leak? help me out. My pick up coil maybe?

Well I changed out my pick up coil and it seems it got a little better. But still it stumbles. Weird thing is it does it only sometimes. But now my tachometer is bouncing all over the place . I had this happen before and it was the ignition coil. I'm gonna try swapping that out tomorrow and see if it gets better. Seems to be ignition related. All my plugs are getting spark idk what it could be. All my fuel injectors seem to be firing as well

Re: 3.1 Misfire Sputter

Well I replaced all the ignition components. Cap and rotor, Wires and plugs, ignition coil and icm and pick up coil. That eliminates ignition system. I'm leaning toward injectors? I think it's the injectors because as I'm cruising down the road at a steady throttle everything is good no studdering, then if i spike the throttle it studders and then straightens out as it reaches higher rpm. Has Anybody had a similar problem? I also have a rough idle. I read this article. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/add...fuel-injector/

Re: 3.1 Misfire Sputter

If the engine still has the stock OEM Multec injectors, replace them.

Re: 3.1 Misfire Sputter

Well problem solved. Maintenance is the key. Pulled my fuel filter before doing my injector swap and black gasoline came out. Yes black dirty gasoline with little particles of rust. Haven't changed that out in oh maybe 2 years. Problem fixed. Injectors were clogged. they all read between 12.5 and 12.9. Have my smooth idle back and great acceleration . One more lesson learned and the sixer is back on the street. Anybody with a similar problem first you have to eliminate all probable causes.
