Weird Idling issues

So my Camaro has sat for about 2 months. I got her running again last night. It will only fire on starting fluid. Without starting fluid it will just turn over. Once it fires it idles really low and bad when cold. Once the engine warms up it idles really high. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

Re: Weird Idling issues

What year V6? She'll only start off starting fluid or you're somehow running it off fluid long enough to warm the engine? As far as high idle check for any vacuum leaks

Carbed or fuel injected? Have you replaced the fuel filter? Do you know what your fuel pressure is? When was the last time the ignition system (plugs, wires, etc) was replaced? I'm going to take a guess that you have multiple issues going on. Do you see any cracked/disconnected/missing vacuum lines?

Re: Weird Idling issues

@liveit! - It will only start on starter fluid. I just need to spray a little to get the engine to run. Without starter fluid the engine won't start. It will run on it's own with gasoline after I spray a little start fluid.

@drdave88 - I have a 1989 Camaro with the 2.8 v6. I have replaced the fuel filter, dist cap, wires, plugs and air filter since it sat for a while and needed those before it sat. I don't know what my fuel pressure is. I also haven't checked the vacuum lines.

Interesting, it runs but had to start on fluid. So the systems are working enough to run, I can only believe you need to try some fresh fuel ? Hopefully it will start on its own then ?

Also, maybe a short in the starting system.

Re: Weird Idling issues

Is your fuel pump priming when you turn the key to ON? If not you may have an issue with your Fuel Pump Relay. The car is running after you start it with starting fluid because it's built enough oil pressure to trip the Oil Pressure Switch to tell the fuel pump to turn on
