It's a 2.8 MPFI Corsica. Since I bought the car the problem has only seemed to have gotten worse.... So far I've changed the motor oil, transmission fluid, flushed the radiator, ran 2 or 3 cans of seafoam through it, Lucas's trans-fix, blown the air filter clean, blown the fuel filter clean....

When I'm driving the car it's like it's holding back terribly. Under heavy heavy load sometimes it takes off perfectly fine, will shift fine, but then other times it hesitates and stalls, like it'll sometimes rev up but it won't go, it's like it's either a hit or miss... I haven't had the transmission slip and it shifts fine under heavy load sometimes almost impressively, but other times it's as if it goes nowhere and I have to let off the gas and reapply it and hope it "takes". The car doesn't knock at all except if I give it way to much gas during one these "episodes" and the car isn't moving forward it'll backfire and the engine will die (only had this happen once or twice) so I'm almost positive the engine is healthy.. But I'm really hoping it's not the transmission. The vacumn hoses seem to be in fine shape as well.

The check engine light does come on.... Symptoms seem maybe a little better when light is on. Is it possible all of these issues are from a bad sensor?

These are some really weird issues, it might be helpful if you can pull a code off that check engine light. when does it come on? You should be able to find info on how to pull a code from the SES light easy by searching the site, or if you need I'll give you the run down

 

Can u give me the rundown of how to do it from the light? It doesn't turn off for any reason. Literally it turns on at the startup and stays on, does it 1/2 the time alternatively.

 

Ideally, you should probably go to 60degreev6.com, since your engine is different than the F body V6. Having said that, I'm curious if your catalytic converter is plugged up. Some of what you're describing sounds like a plugged converter.

 

 

A $25 Harbor Freight laser thermometer will give you some good information about the catalytic converter.

Measure temps on upstream and downstream sides. If you have 100+ difference in the two readings, you can pretty much rule out the converter being the issue.
