Used a V8 SBC 168 tooth compatible starter on a V6?
I read sometimes more than I wrench. Deep in a site with info. on adapters and interchange, they mention using the small block V8 starter with diagonal bolt pattern on the 2800 family of engines.
Is there any gotchas to this? I know starter bolts need to be the correct shank length into the block, and thread size.
This is for a hybrid project and it is actually for a RWD 60deg. V6 iron block engine with V6 T5, so I think this is the best place to ask.

You may or may not need to drill the holes in the end frame oversize for the 10mm bolts. I actually have a mislabeled SBC gear reduction starter I bought at AZ for the hybrid (actually, I think it was originally for the V6 but it was still boxed wrong and it's no longer listed on their site). I would love to find out what the actual model of the starter is as the starter drive is dead...
You CANNOT buy replacement starter bolts for the V6. Believe me, Ive tried. Nobody makes them and GM discontinued them years ago. Every replacement bolt I have seen is either half the length it needs to be or is several millimeters too long. They're a weird length, which is funny considering pretty much every 60* V6 up to the mid-90s used them.

Thanks. You're saying the pinion gear mates up with the ring gear fine, and the end frame should generally work?
I think you should inquire from AZ what the PN is under your warranty profile in the computer, and see if you can dig any more info with that.
Bolts shouldn't be an issue. Or can be made.
