Porting where the intake meets the head

Porting where the intake meets the head

I cannot seem to find a pic of the bottom side of a bottom piece ported MPFI intake manifold. Should I make this square, or leave it as is? Surely it served some purpose to leave it like this from the factory. Does it help the injectors to atomize? Because leaving it makes an awkward ledge for the air to pass over.

I don't know of any reason not to gasket match the port opening.

thanks dr. then I can't think of any reason why GM casted it like this.

unless it was to keep our V6s from stepping on those L98 toes.
