leave the one on your car alone, there is a reason for the screen.

If you want a modified one for the track, get one from a salvage yard & then modify.

That screen is there to straighten airflow as it comes around that elbow... leave that screen there with that elbow.

I agree with Graeme! I pulled the screen on my Firebird, too- then promptly got the Service Engine Soon light, and an error code for "low air flow". The screen's back in. Camaros have a straight-on intake, and won't get the error code.

It's really just the bottems of filter boxes chopped off .I dont have any tubing b/c I really dont need it .I have one of those grills that kinda looks like mini-blinds that are tilted upward , so when the air enters my grill areau it pushes the air up to the filter boxes .If you look under your boxes you prabably have a flat black piece of plastic , I took that off so the air can get to the filters .It works really well , after I completed it I knowticed a big difference , atleast 10 hp .Sorry I dont have any pics to show you .

Thats why you clean them ...I cleaned mine after 10k miles that I had them in , but they really didnt need it .I will check them once in awhile , just to make sure . But the way they looked at 10k miles , I prabably wont clean them but every 25k miles . I was driving under real dusty road construction conditions so thats what I cleaned them sooner .

Leave the air silencer ( proper name MAF SCREEN) in there .I just call it air silencer b/c some people call it that . Most people say dont take them out b/c your car will idle funny .Mine does not idle funny .But if I had to do it all over again . I WOULD NOT take it out and chance idling problems and running rough .

I told you not to remove it but didnt tell you what it is ..sorry lol .The air silencer ( proper name MAF SCREEN) IS THE mesh screen with a ga-jillion holes in it that covers the MAF (mass airflow sensor) to protect it from debry and debry getting in your engine which may squeeze pass filters .

When I cut the bottems out of my boxes I left the center piece in for extra support to hold the K&N'S but it will prabably be ok if you cut it .

Correct , take those off . Then you can either cut the whole bottem off along the edges of the bottem and leave the piece between the flaps to help support them , or just cut the whole thing .I left that center piece just to give them some support .Buts its prabably not needed ...Wish I had my digital camera working , Id snap some shots for ya .But I have a defective memory card , Im waiting on another one to come in , anyway have fun man !
