I would like to know if any one has replaced their in dash tach wit an auto meter tach, what is involved, and any pic would help. I would like to mount the tach where the stock one is! is it posible and how hard was it.

I have not in the third gen YET. But I have installed a couple in 2nd gens. NOT HARD. You should have RED(HOT) BLACK(GROUND) GREEN?(LIGHTS) and I forget the exact color for the input that splices into the coil. But the tach will(SHOULD) have a Clynder selector on the back. Put it in the "6" spot. Wire in the ground. Wire(piggyback) the hot to a fuse panel wire that is hot ONLY WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE ON POSITION. make sure you get the right side(Output) of the fuse wire you choose. I forget the coil signal wire color, I can look it up tomarrow that goes to the ECM even so you can keep it all inside the cabin and not have any "pass through" wires.

I installed a Fuel/Air guage in my 92 in under 20 minutes(Just to let you know) and I had to call the dealer to get the right jumper wire. If you have a haynes manual it will be in there in the "engine ELECTRICAL system" MAKE SURE your in the right year/Engine "blueprint". I have run into people going by the wrong Engine/year diagram and had to correct them.

To mount it where the stock on is means alot of trouble thats not worth it yet. It means removing the instrament cluster, Probing the circuit board to find out what leads you can safely cut through and then making something to fill the gap between the new tach and the hole you just had to cut into the cluster. Mount it on your steering column dead center, off center whatever less hastle quick easy painless.

Now if you were replacing ALL the Guages at once I would say go for it. alot easier to make a filler plate with the appropriate sized holes for the guages then what you wanting to do now.
