Are headers worth it on a 2.8?

I have a stock 86 Camaro with a 2.8l. I have to replace the rear exhaust I am going to put on a Dynomax super turbo cat back system on. My question, is it worth it to put headers on? Will it gain enough power to make it worth it? I would get the coated Pace setter ones if I do.
Thanks Dana

I thought it was worth it when I put them on mine. You aren't going to see a 50hp gain or anything, but you should notice a little difference in power, sound as well.

One thing to consider with the 2.8 is these motors are noted for bearing failure if abused. The the later 2.8 and bigger sixes had upgraded cranks and bearings and are somewhat more durable. I would drive it and leave it mostly stock myself.

One of the six cylinder experts here told me that the change year for when the weak cranks were upgraded was the same year that they ditched the carb and went to the MPFI .
Since the original poster's car is a 1986 , which does have the MPFI , he should have the better crank

Thought it was 87-up. Either way, throwing bolt ons onto a V6 isn't going to make enough difference to justify the expense.

Agreed, only time its important is when you turbo it and make 300+ hp.

As for headers, every little bit helps. Might only add 5 hp mabey 10 on a good day, other supporting mods would help. Also with a good exhaust system will sound better.

Read the sticky at the top of the page "How to get the most power/speed out of your v6 car." Its well thought out and has lots of good info for all six pack drivers. I bought an 86 Pontiac 6000 STE new. I was impressed by how frisky the 2.8 TPI was in that large a car.
