Normally I never say this , but you are the one and only situation where my belief is ;
You say you want to try to put a 4 barrel carb on your 2.8 .... Obviously this means it's not fast enough for you in it's stock form . Am I correct here ?
If so , , , , , , your changing the wrong part , the part you need to change is called "The Engine" !!!!
Now if you knew anything about me you'd know I'm all about restoring these cars to their stock condition and enjoying them as built . But once the "More Power !!!!" requirement comes into the picture anything to do with "Originality" automatically goes out the window , and a 2.8 car isn't worth a damn original or not (compared to the better more powerfully optioned 8 cylinder cars) . You will be hugely disappointed in your 4 barrel attempts with that engine for a few reasons , namely that anything done to try to extract power from that small of an engine will be more money VS gain than if the similar money was being spent on a V8 . Also , your 1982 2.8 IS one of the ones with the weak crankshaft , a stronger crank came with the 2.8 in later years (I was once told that the switch to the stronger crank came with the switch from carb to MPFI in the mid 1980s , I thought it was 1986 but that has been challenged recently in a different thread) .
I know a V8 swap is a major project in these cars , but before snapping the crank in that V6 trying to get a few more ponies outta it , you may well want to consider the age old formula for speed ;
Speed = Cubic Inches X Cubic Dollars , Squared
Skimping on the Cubic Inches part of the formula means that the Cubic Dollars part will have to increase dramatically if your gonna run with the big dogs (the V8 cars with the performance your looking for) ....

Ok thank you i plan on putting a 350 or 400 v8 in it sometime in the next couple years but i was wondering if a 4bbl carb or something that will boost the power a bit

if that is your car,its a real beauty.i love the color!!
if your car runs well now and has no issues,enjoy the freedom of having a good running ,original car and save and accumulate parts for a v8 swap.v6 parts are expensive and pointless.
doing anything to the 2.8 carbed v6 is pretty much a waste so unless you plan on going fuel injected and turbo charged like the tta's(and grand nationals) we all love just leave it be.
do not add headers,do not add loud exhaust as these 2.8 slug like v6's sound horrible with louder exhaust and aren't any faster.you can do a regular sbc v8 swap for not a lot of money
and the best,easiest and most painless way is to get a complete v8 camaro/firebird and swap everything over and save a bundle by getting it all in one package.this is my opinion anyway.
you are of course welcome to do whatever you wish.if i were you i would look for a formula bulge hood (or t/a or gta) as it would be perfect on your car!
