code 34

I keep getting a code 34 on my car I know its the MAF sensor. I took the screen out with I got the car could that be the reason? I regret doing that now wish I could pop it back in. If it is that is it hurting my performance any? or could my MAF being going out or anything?
Thanx

I explained this to 89CamaroRSV6 in person. The intake system depends on wiether or not the screen will hurt/improve. if the air coming through is already straight and not very turbulent you have no need for the screen and it will only hender flow. If you have a bent intake system with lots of curves it'll help straighten out the airflow and HELP.
