Car bogging issue
Car bogging issue
Hello everyone. My car is a 1984 2.8L with the 2bbl non computer controlled carb. So to my knowledge this car can run without the computer completely. The ECM has no effect on how the engine runs to my knowledge. Distributor is vac advance and is not HEI. This issue started after i had swapped a reman carb into the car the big is only apparent under heavy throttle loads. When i originally got the car I had driven it for two days, and i stayed out of the throttle those days so I don’t know if this issue was apparent before the swap. I cracked my fuel filter housing while swapping the filter out so got a reman to replace it. Couple days later took the car for a drive and wanted to bag on it. This is when i noticed the car would bog under throttle load. Spark plugs helped this issue but didn’t resolve it. I set my timing to factory standard 12 degrees. this also helped but issue persists. A important factor to note in is that the previous owner “deleted” the egr. I put this in brackets because i’m not sure if it was done properly. I have read online you need an EGR block off plate for the intake manifold. Previous owner disconnected all the vacuum lines related to EGR and plugged them. If this delete was not done properly can this cause my engine to run like garbage? Tomorrow i am modifying a screw driver to adjust the carb. I found specs for setting the carb on a bench. going to remove it from the car and set it as it would be from the factory and see what that does. there is a rich smell from the car at idle and when jt bogs it smells rich. Also some smoke on start up but not extremely black like i would have thought. Old spark plugs also didn’t look extremely carboned. they actually looked like they were burning clean which threw me off. If anyone has any input would be much appreciated. i’m going to post this in a carb section as well see if anyone over there knows about these engines some.
