HELP How to put the engine on time in my 91 camaro 3.1
Hello group, my camaro 91 3. 1 did not want to start, the day I used it I had it in the minimum of gasoline and I took it quickly to the gas station and I put gasoline, then I used it and it turned off and no longer wanted to start, I thought it was the fuel pump and I changed this new one, and I also moved the distributor where the spark plug wires go, I thought it had moved the timpo, but it does not want to start, at a certain point when I move the distributor it starts, but it starts failing and makes explosions and when I move the distributor it turns off, what could it be, I hope you can help me because I need the car for my work.

My V6 times are long gone, but if I remember correctly, you'll have to do these things:
You'll have to get the idle air control valve on the throttle body into a closed position. There was a way to do that by turning the ignition key and waiting until it closes... IF I remember correctly.
Then pull the connector off. That way you'll have a constant minimum idle, because the idle air passage remains closed and the ECM cannot correct it.
Then there is a brown longish connector somewhere between the distributor and the blower box on the passenger side. Disconnect it, so the engine control module won't keep adjusting your timing while you're attempting to set it.
Not doing this is what most often causes the timing to be set wrong, even though it seems great at first.
Connect a timing light to the spark plug wire of cylinder #1. You'll have to look up which one that is, but I think it's the first one on the DRIVER side.
You'll be pointing that light down onto the harmonic balancer, where you'll find the sawtooth-indicator that tells you what your timing is, when the engine turns and the ignition fires.
Then you'll need to get the engine running and slowly turn the distributor until you see the mark on the balancer line up with the correct degree notch on that sawtooth-indicator.
If you still have the emissions label under the hood, you'll find the correct timing angle for your engine there. If not, you'll have to look it up.
At the end clear the error codes from the ECM, either by using your computer, if available, or by disconnecting the battery terminals and waiting for a couple of minutes.

Cylinder #1 on the V6 motors is the first cylinder on the passenger side of the car.
You can use the #4 cylinder to set timing with the timing mark as well. #4 is the middle cylinder on the driver side.
Typically it's 10 degrees initial timing but it might be 8 or 12, look under the hood and see if you have the sticker telling you which one. Otherwise start with 10 if you don't know and work from there.
Make sure to unplug the brown est wire located near the air box / ac box on the passenger firewall before you start the car.
And also don't set the timing until the engine is warmed up.
Once set, shut the engine off.
Tighten the retainer bolt down. Plug the est wire back in, and then disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
You should be good after that if it was just a timing issue.
