Pardon my ignorance but where is the thermostat sensor, is it the plug like instrument inches away from the thermostat?

Thermostat sensor... you mean the coolant temp sensor? Yeah, it sticks into the intake manifold. There's also a temp sensor (for the dash) on the frontmost outside corner of the driver's side head (one green wire going to it), and a temp sensor (for the fan) in the rearmost outside corner of the passenger side head (I think a purple wire goes to it).
